This animation shows the evolution of the optimal temperature envelope for the 1-year old American lobtser settling to the bottom. In the early 80's and in the cold summer of 1992, the western Gulf of Maine was the best place for young lobster to settle in. However, climate change has caused the best settling habitat to shift north to the midcoast Maine and in the future it could be confined to the Bay of Fundy as seen during the anormaly warm summer of 2012.
This animation shows the reconstructed migration tracks of 21 Atlantic halibut tagged with pop-up satellite archival tags. Migration routes were reconstructed by comparing depth and temperature recorded by the tag with bathymetry and bottom temperature grids. Enjoy!
