This animation shows the evolution of the optimal temperature envelope for the settlement of American lobster. Despite some variability across the time series, the current warming trend has led to northward shift in the optimal temperature. While the Gulf of Maine has historically been and still is the backbone of the lobster fishery, all eyes are now on the Gulf of St. Lawrence, which might become the most productive lobster fishing ground in the coming decades.
This animation shows the reconstructed migration tracks of 21 Atlantic halibut tagged with pop-up satellite archival tags. Migration routes were reconstructed by comparing depth and temperature recorded by the tag with bathymetry and bottom temperature grids. Enjoy!
